Lilla & Nick's Engagement Sess, Charlotte, NC

Here are a few of my favs from Lilla & Nick's engagement session this past weekend. They actually met at The Mez uptown so we started there and then ended the shoot showing off the Charlotte skyline. Enjoy! :)

Erin & Travis' Charlotte Wedding, Carmel Country Club

photographer's notes - so much of what we do at Indigo revolves on how we approach our portraits.

"portraits" - its such a clunky word, steeped in tired traditions like our yearbook picture, our corporate headshot for a swipe card, a staid family event where we all sat on an ottoman and smiled on the count of "3" for our group portrait when i was a boy.

it can be much more than that, though, and that's where our focus is. whether it's Vanity Fair or Vogue or GQ, many of the iconic images that hold our imagination are in fact, portraits. that's the sensibility we bring to every Indigo wedding.

for Erin and Travis' wedding day, the stately Dilworth United Methodist Church made for a picture perfect location for our pre-wedding portrait bracket...particularly the shaded courtyard out front.

to conclude the portrait bracket for their day, we stepped outside of the Carmel Country Club at dusk - we had lush, feathered light and an epic sky to shoot against.

Sheila & Stephen's Charlotte Wedding, Bentley's

photographer's notes - when i talk to our brides and grooms about their wedding day, i mention how the day is more than an exchange of vows...or the first dance...or the cake cutting...or the toasts. its really more of an amalgam of tiny (yet significant) moments, strung together over the course of many hours.

for Sheila and Stephen's wedding day, we did some wonderful hero shots (particularly the carefree street series at sunset), they were very generous with their time - but i also loved the post ceremony image we did in the tiny bridal room at Saint Mary's Chapel. it was an intimate moment, taken just minutes after they were announced "husband and wife".

to me, that image sums up what documentary coverage is all about.
